Brian Cox, as long as it concentrated on the later Rebus novels.

But there surely can only be one 'Big Ger' Cafferty in James Cosmo!

(I'm watching the John Hannah dvds - OK but Hannah misses on too many of the characteristic traits of Rebus; and Siobhan? The role is written as far too wet and inconsequential so far.

Carlyle would be better cast as the Weasel, I get the impression John is tall but of a thicker set than Robert Carlyle (if RC is the Carlyle you referer to) I liked Ken Stott much better than John Hannah but with a potential third actor being cast I'd be afraid the public would not be as gripped on it as the lead keeps changing - even though its been a long time since JH's Rebus was shown.

Its a difficult one to cast as we all have an image of rebus in our minds and satifying everyone would be hard to do..

My ideal actor to play Rebus on the Big Screen would be Jason Isaacs, who has demonstrated that he is quite capable of playing villains as well as clean cut heroes. If he can manage an Irish/American accent (as in Brotherhood) he can do Scottish! Got to have an attraction for us lady viewers.....

Now that's sorted - who is Siobhan?

I didn't go alot on John Hannah. Hannah is a good actor, but as Rebus he was too young. Perhaps he would've made a good younger Rebus?
Ken Stott is great.
And I like the new casting for Siobhan. She's so pretty!

Carlyle is far too weedy, James Cosmo would be far better, more gritty and more realistic

Film would suit Rebus better than TV. Dead Souls would be the obvious choice, allowing the big screen to between Edinburgh, Glasgow, Aberdeen, North Sea oil rigs and the Shetlands. As to the actor, the baddy from the Bourne films.

I'm about 50 pages into Exit Music, and I can't get the image of Ken Stott out of my head. (Not a bad image, just not what I want intruding into my private fantasy!)
My vote for the next portrayer of Rebus is Gordon Pinsett. Yes, I know he's Canadian, but he does project the right aura of world-weariness, he's a superb actor, and I'm sure he would do Rebus justice. The Edinburgh burr would be no challenge to an actor of his caliber.
