Recasting Rebus

I think they should do a movie on Exit Music with Sean Connery playing Rebus...he has that same crotchety attitude that Rebus has, I think. I can picture him in my head in that role.

Far, far too old to play the part of a policeman. Would be on a par with the USA take on Life on Mars where they miscast Harvey Keitel in the Gene Hunt role.

I was just talking about this with my friend the other day and we came up with Gerard Butler. Although young he would be good to show Rebus going through the SAS years. And the other name that was dropped was (ok please don't laugh) Craig Ferguson! He has that certain look and wit about him I just know he could pull off a good "FYTP" Though I will admit it would be difficult to see him in a serious role!

But there surely can only be one 'Big Ger' Cafferty in James Cosmo!

(I'm watching the John Hannah dvds - OK but Hannah misses on too many of the characteristic traits of Rebus; and Siobhan? The role is written as far too wet and inconsequential so far.

I have to agree; after listening to so many Rebus audio cds, I formed a mental picture of Maurice Gerald Cafferty. The image was none other than James Cosmo. Not somebody I would like to meet on a dark night! (Cafferty I mean, not Mr.Cosmo! )

Cafferty is not the sort of character that I would like to meet day or night !!. James Cosmo would be the ideal actor to play him.

What about the Scottish actor who played the cop on Silent Witness with Amanda Burton? I can't for the life of me remember his name and even Wikipedia is not helping me . However I always thought he would make the perfect Rebus ... never could cotton on to those short actors they rolled out on the original TV series. If Ian is having more input into the casting this time, I am hopeful of a better fit. Good Luck all round. This time I hope they do the books justice! :

Don't anyone have a fit - but I always pictured Rebus as looking something like Russell Crowe. Now, I'm not suggesting he should, would, or could play John Rebus. I always thought that John Hannah was a terrible mis-cast. Don't know who Mr. Stott is (live in Canada) but sounds like he wasn't a fit either. Has to be someone who can carry off the slightly rumpled, hungover look but still be sort of sexy!

Ken Stott is almost perfect as Rebus. It's the awful scripts that ruined the series. (The John Hannah films had good scripts, but Hannah was all wrong for the part and I hated it told in the first person.)

He's Irish, but please, please, please consider an actor called Liam Cunningham. He's the nearest thing I know to Bob Peck, who I always think would have made a superb Rebus. By they way, I'm not related to or a friend or acquaintance of Mr Cunningham. Never met him!
