New Rebus fan....

Postby kba on Wed Sep 02, 2009 4:16 pm

I only discovered Ian Rankin's Rebus books late last year and have read every one at least twice having started with the Resurrection Men which I think was his best book, and then read them in order once hooked. I enjoyed Doors Open altho it wasnt on the same par as the Rebus novels; am waiting for The Complaints with anticipation but life without Rebus? - I would like to see Ian bring him back on say cold cases - what do others think, or has John had his day? I cant say Siobhan as lead would do it for me!

I agree that Siobhan cannot replace Rebus, the humour and dark edge would be lost. However, as Rebus lives in 'real time' he is now sixty two, too old for chasing (or grappling with) criminals.

Kba,I am very impressed that you are fairly new to Rebus, and have read each book twice.
Like you i'm fairly new,and after reading a few later ones, decided to restart at the beginning. My regret is that it took so long for me to discover Mr Rankin and John Rebus.
I love these books.

I envy you having recently discovered Rebus. I remember my excitement on first discovering the series in about 2004, late on in the series. Having read each one three times I believe that the books seem even more impressive each time. Knowing the plot in advance takes away the surprise but allows one to discover previously hidden elements.

I haven't read all of the books twice but I think I might start again. I think I did try to listen to them via audio but didn't like it.

I used to rent them from my local library. Tapes, they were then. Tapes are out of date now? They probably only do them on mp3 and CD.
iTunes is a rip off, Sandy. Do not buy from iTunes. You can get CDs, DVDs and Audio books much cheaper online and on the high street.
Try Amazon.co.uk, Play.Com and HMV.

Also, your local library. You can order books and audio books for fifty pence each. :)

Hello everyone!

New fan here! (overstatement I suppose given the title of this thread) A friend of mine had me listen to "The Falls" on audiobook and although I don't recall the readers Name he was amazing! I have listened to sever that this guy has Narrated and it was really him that got me hooked. I have in the last month bought 17 of the Rebus series and witch hunt as well. I must say it is difficult to find the UK version here in the U.S. Ian Rankin is now my favorite author. I will be rebuying the series to put on my Nook provided I can find them all.
