John Hannah as Rebus

If anyone wishes to see the first series of Rebus TV shows they are showing on Alibi at the moment. Failing that you can download them from Vuze onto pc. In my opinion they are far superior to the later Ken Stott ones as they are closer to the original storyline.

Whilst I agree that the Hannah adaptations are far closer to the books, the actor himself is not and never will be John Rebus in a million years. Totally miscast.

When I first saw John Hannah as Rebus I thought to myself: 'He's ok, but I'd have preferred an actor like Ken Stott'. To be fair, though, John Hannah didn't want to play the part initially. He owned the TV rights to the character, but ITV put pressure on him to star, so he reluctantly agreed or else the series might not have been made.

I totally agree. In my opinion the only Rebus is Ken Stott. I'm really sorry for John Hannah but it doesn't fit the character.

Has anyone seen John Hannah as Batiatus in HBO's "Spartacus"? I felt his portrayal was stunning. Maybe it is about the direction and not the actor. I'd love to see the Rebus series done by HBO with the same grit as "The Wire" and not sanitised for UK tv.

Having watched him murder the part of John Rebus, I have no interest in watching him in any other role thank you.

I totally agree that John Hannah was miscast as Rebus, basically because he's too young-looking and clean-cut, but it's unfair to dismiss his acting ability because of it. After all, it's to his credit that he recognised he wasn't right for the part. He's an accomplished actor, and is worth watching, but not as Rebus.

first time I saw John Jannah as Rebus I just thought how wrong he was - too young for a start.

Ken Stott makes a great one though - just a pity the adaptations are not better
